Take 5

June 26, 2009

It’s about that time of year again when I take my summer vacation.  This year it will be a staycation, but I will be taking the break from blogging just the same.  That is unless something really comes along and I can’t help myself.  So this will be my last blog until 6 July.

There are some worrisome poll numbers out there for the President.  “A New York Times/CBS News poll shows 60 percent of Americans do not believe the president has a strategy to reduce the deficit.” In itself not too much of a surprise.  I never thought the President had much of a plan for anything other than large power grabs into the States and Private Sectors.

What is slightly surprising is that the NYT/CBS News released those findings.  They aren’t exactly Pro-GOP sources.

-“A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll says 58 percent of Americans want the president to make controlling the deficit a higher priority than a speedy economic recovery.” Which shows some smarts.  The economy will/would recover with or without the help of Congress or the President.  In fact just as in the Great Depression, the Government is more likely to impede a recovery.

“A Pew Research Center poll indicates 55 percent of Americans are optimistic the president will eventually reduce the budget deficit, but that’s a smaller number than the 61 percent of people who approve of him generally.” Now this makes one suspect the questing and the poll.  You can’t have 60% thinking he has no plan and 55% thinking he will get us out of this.  Unless of course dead Democrats are also responding so you can reach 115%.  ;)

In any case RCP has the President still at 60% and 53.7% still disapprove of the job Congress is doing and 51.6% believe we are on the wrong track.

Next Topic:

Striking a “monuments to me” from an Appropriations Bill, Dave Obey had to defend himself against the altercation presented by Maxine Waters.  Seems she earmarked funds for an institute named after her.  Perhaps she has the Byrd Fever which makes him name every WV project after him.  In any event she then attempt to have the same money redirected through a school that would shift the funds to the institute, which was also shot down.  Obey was “accosted” by Waters who made quite the scene.

These are the “adults” that are supposed to represent you.  They are also going to show restraint and fix the economy.  Yea, Right.

Fly With Me:

You remember the Bridge to Nowhere?  How about an Airport in the middle of Nowhere?  The Federal Government has approved the spending of $12million dollars to build a new airport, they already have an airport, in Tokotna, Alaska.  So what you say?  OK, thee is a slight hitch, the town only has 46 residents.  The Federal Government is providing 95% of the funding of this project with the state providing the rest.  The DOT spends an average of about $140 million per year on rural airport projects and most is funded with federal money.  Rural airports, read backwater, tiny low use airports.

Remember economic discipline is the new rule for Congress.

Last Item, Serving Justice:

Jane Harman is not under investigation for bribery.  She has been dodging this allegation since 2005.

Jury selection is about to begin for William Jefferson now that he has run out of appeals in his attempt dodge the charges against him.  Jefferson you might recall in under indictment for bribery.  Some $90,000 was found in his freezer, wrapped in aluminum foil.  For over 2 years now Jefferson has attempted to block the evidence, part of which is a videotape of him accepting the bribe.  The serial numbers on the bills matched the bills given to the FBI informant.

I hope he gets the max sentance allowed by law.

HealthScare

June 23, 2009

I’m getting pretty tired of the Administration calling everything a crisis.  Take Healthcare, the doom and gloom reports about how 46 million people are without health care.  I’ll even be nice and leave out the fact that who does and does not have health care isn’t a responsibility of the Federal Government. Let’s look at some real numbers of who is without health care.

There is a real difference in language here, so you have to be careful.  How many are without health care, the answer is zero.  By Federal Law anyone that walks into a hospital must be treated.  Which is a far cry from not having health insurance to be sure, but you will get health care.  But let’s look at the numbers the Administration tosses about.

70% of uninsured children are eligible for Medicaid, SCHIP, or both programs, a 2008 study by the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute shows and at least 14 million were eligible for either SCHIP or Medicaid.

Somewhere around those 46 million, 20 million are immigrants, and half of them are here illegally.  And then there is those, who much like myself years ago, simply don’t believe it is worth the cost and decline to have it.  The number could be as high as 18 million.

Now you are going to say; “wait a minute.  That is a lot more than 46 million.” And I say you are correct, because the Government in order to make it sound like a crisis tosses numbers around and actually having some counted two or three times because they fall into those three different categories.  Thus, they get counted all three times, or twice if that is the case.

But many can’t afford health insurance, you say.  That’s what they’d like you to believe.  Estimates say that almost 18 million people made over $50,000 a year and do not have health insurance.  Ten Million of them made over $75,000.  And please don’t tell me $50,000 isn’t enough, because I was paying for health insurance making a lot less than that.

So the quick score is with 18 million just not buying it, 10 million here illegally and lastly 14 million more who are able to receive either Medicaid or SCHIP, we are left with a grand crisis total of……….. 5 million.  OK that makes a crisis 0.01% of the population, (that’s 5 million people out of 365 million).  So we are going to saddle our children with 1.6 trillion to start, (because you know it is going to cost more than that), for 5 million people.

What people seem to forget is that the Government doesn’t have to make a profit.  So they can give some people give a-way’s like this because they just raise taxes to cover the loss.  The Postal Service for example.  What very well may happen is the Private sector will start failing, the Government provided insurance will increasingly gain more people and cost will skyrocket, just as they did back in the late 60’s.

This I believe is the plan.  Ruin the HMO’s and health insurance companies so the Government has the monopoly on the 17% of the economy related to healthcare.  Next will come control of the drug companies, forcing them to supply medicine at the Governments “approved” cost.

SIDE BAR:  Even if we accepted that all 46 million were without health care, that would still only be .1% of the population.  Hardly a crisis by any sane standard.  END SIDE BAR

Much of this information can be located in “The Top Ten Myths of American Health Care: A Citizen’s Guide” by Sally Pipes and the very partisan, (chuckle) CBO.

While people will say that Canada has a system that works, (which it really doesn’t), we have more people in the aforementioned example without than they have in population, (Canada’s last census was 33 million).  They can’t make a system that works with 33 million and some expect the US to do it for 365 million.  Good luck with that.

Don’t let the euroweenie syndrome suck you in.  No matter what they say, we still have the best health care system in the world.  And the proof of that is just about every world leader comes here when they need the best care.  They don’t rely on their socialized medicine plan, THEY COME HERE. And if you can’t grasp why that is, you should ave your voter registration card revoked.

A Low and Away Screwball.

June 18, 2009

Let’s harken back to the days of the Campaign when Joe Biden was selected to be the VP assuring the questions of his obvious lack of foreign policy experience of the President were never asked.  Any gaps that the President might have, Mr. Biden would surely fill in the space.  Hello Shirley has called and thinks you jest.

The VP is running around promoting the not be issued, and not really working Stimulus Plan while the President, with all his lack of experience handles the new problems as they crop up.  And a fine job he is doing.  In response to North Korea firing rockets that could reach Hawaii, he cuts missile defense spending.  To answer the nuke program of Iran, he promises to stay out of their internal affairs and give gays working for the Government some bennies that normal people have.

You just can’t beat that response can you?  Even the United Nitwits couldn’t have had a worse response.  And where the heck is Jimmy Carter?  Isn’t he the lead Democrat Diplomat when it comes to crying about elections gone wrong?  Oh Wait, that’s right, their guy won.  While he might be a insane brutal maniac, he’s their maniac.  So let’s not give at least vocal support to those who feel their election was stolen.  Meanwhile, the “expert” of foreign affairs is trying to sell iceboxes to Eskimo’s.

And who came up with the plan that thinks that the Country that is subsidizing North Korea, China, is going to think it is in their best interest to tell them to listen to us?  One of the best thing’s in the World for China would be for North Korea to cause a lot of problems.  You know the UN can’t do anything about it, that is unless of course we supply the bulk of the assistance and force.

That would involve more spending, more debt and guess who gets to collect on that debt some day?  OR, we do nothing and let the Commies take over the South, something Democrats wouldn’t be all that upset about, and we again look weak in the eyes of the World especially you know who.  Some day soon I hope people will get it through their head that not every Nation on this planet has the same regard for life as we do.  Giving the past record of Communist in taking over other Countries, I hope we can generate more than a weak or non-response.

On the home front:

In his desire to get more people back to work, and the rate of unemployment continues to rise as his job rating falls, the President fires The Inspector General Gerald Walpin, an appointee of G.W. Bush.  Now under a law, as I understand it, this is perfectally fine, he should be serving under or at the pleasure of the President.  But according to a bill, one of the few he was there for, the President signed states that the IG must be given 30 days notice.

This is to allow time for rebuttal and to make the IG Office a little less political. So not only does the President not follow the law, he doesn’t follow a law he helped put in place.  This must be one of those “It sounded like a good idea at the time” type of votes.  The people liked it, but now that it applies to me, maybe it’s not so good an idea.

What this really goes to show is how much things change and what happens when you don’t think things through.  Some Democrats are calling for an explination from the Administration on this firing.  These people put this into place, well let’s be honest,  just to get at Bush.  Now they have caught one of their own in the net they have set.

Think about it, these are the people you are trusting to run the Country.  They can’t even run their Party.  I keep hearing the the GOP is out of power for 50 years or more.  Looking now at the results of the Dem run house, it’s looking more like 6 years.

I just hope there is still some recoverable free market left to rebuild the Country on.

Why Dems Like Moderates

June 13, 2009

I hear a lot of people, almost always from the left, telling everyone that will listen that the Republican Party needs to move closer to the center and ignore it’s hard right base.  Never mind that they don’t ignore their hard left base, this, in their thinking is the only way anything will ever get done.  (Anyone that believes that BTW hasn’t read the Constitutional Debates.  Parties couldn’t be more apart, but yet they did find a middle ground.  But that is because they were Statesmen, not politicians.)

There are a couple of reasons I believe for the desire for conservatives to shift.  For one thing, moderates are moderates because they don’t take a real stand on anything.  By not having a real principle to stand on those from the left know they can get a slight movement left from them in so-called cooperation.  Cooperation to a Democrat is they get 50% of what they want, which is generally 100% more than a conservative wants to give.

Which is why this was observed by Madison; “I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.”

In other words they slip it in under the radar, mostly under the guise of compromise.  Let’s take 2 such examples.  When FDR told the Nation, not to worry, a Social Security Number would never be used for anything other than Social Security.  Obviously I can’t blame FDR that it is now required on dang near everything and it has become just what those opposed to it said it would become.  Nothing less than the branding like the Nazi’s were doing to the Jews.

Another favorite of mine is FDR telling us that Social Security would never be taxed.  Well, you know what happened to that promise.  Again, I am not blaming FDR for the changes, I do blame him for not seeing the course of history and knowing what power does to individuals.

And this is where moderates come in.  No one in their right mind believes that Social Security is Constitutional, it just “sounded” like a good idea at the time.  A bit of help to supplement your retirement, pushed through during a tough economical time.  But then things began to change.  Wouldn’t it be reasonable to also give some to those who can’t work?  How about kids who have ADHD?  How about immigrants who haven’t put anything into the system?

Bill at a time, slowly but surely the entitlements grew while the contributions dwindled.  Less workers supporting more retirees as we start to live longer.  Borrow a bit to cover some “extra” expenses, stick it in the general fund to make it look like we have or are getting a surplus instead of a debt, and guess what?  Moderation, compromise and bipartisanship has pretty much sunk the fund into red ink which our children will be paying for.

“Sounds” good at the time gives you slow but steady steps into socialism.  Further and further we walk away from the Constitution and more trouble seems to become us.  Social Security was nothing more than a savings account for heavens sake.  Congress couldn’t even run that.

These are the reasons that we need the strong right.  Someone to stand up and say the line is drawn here.  If you want to divert from the Constitution, then put in an Amendment and let it pass through the Congress and the States.  Because little things like this start happening:

Under a ruling from the Census Bureau you may have to answer personal questions, including income and numerous other questions that most find personal.  Under the guise of Federal Funding Dispersal it is being made mandatory that you answer these questions.  According to Bob Coats, the  N.C. governor’s census liaison the fines can amount to a $100 fine for skipping out on the forms. A $500 fine is the penalty for providing false information.

According to Article 1, Section 2, clause 3 the census is a enumeration of the population.  That’s numbers my friends.  Not your income, not your job, not anything else even your address.  It’s a head count.  Which also happens to fall under the Legislative Branch, in particular The House of Representatives.  The new Administration would like to change that also, of course without the necessary change in the Constitution.

Liberals couldn’t ruin this Country they way they have without the help of moderates, who can’t take a real stand on anything.  So basically the 10% or so who can’t stand on principle actually run the Country.  That should be a scary thought.

“Guess I Was Wrong….”

June 7, 2009

Now that Hillary Clinton serves in President Obama’s Cabinet, she says Obama has “absolutely” answered the question of whether he can handle a middle-of-the-night international crisis. So I have to assume that she has way lowered the bar.

Can we review?  What was the response of the President of North Korea firing off a half dozen missiles?  Oh yea, a nasty comment saying you shouldn’t do that.  About the same reaction we got from the United Nitwits, (U.N.).  How about Iran’s refusal to even slow down their nuke ambition?  About the same, nasty notes from the President and the U.N., sure to scare the pants off of anyone in the world.

“The president in his public actions and demeanor, and certainly in private with me and with the national security team, has been strong, thoughtful, decisive,” she said on ABC’s “This Week.” “I think he is doing a terrific job. And it’s an honor to serve with him.” So far the only actions I’ve seen from the President are apologies to everyone for being the greatest Nation on Earth.  Hardly something to apologize for.  He obviously doesn’t understand the mind of these people if he thinks kissing up to them is going to make them like us.

Fact is, there are those within the Islam religion that believe what is in the Koran and think we should be dead or Muslim.  There is no kissy, kissy I love you let’s make up from I want you dead as the starting point of any type of talks.

“I gave him a bunch of other names of people who I thought would be great secretaries of state,” Clinton said. “But he was quite persistent and very persuasive.” Do you buy that?  I certainly don’t.  In fact I think this was her pay off for not creating a huge stink at the DNC Convention.  She knew she was up for a big job, “Oh I am so surprised that he chose me.  I mean really, little ole me?”  Horse poop.

“I thought, you know, we are in just so many deep holes that everybody had better grab a shovel and start digging out,” Clinton said. Typical backwards thinking from the illogical.  Dig out?  Is that like drilling holes in the boat after it springs a leak to let the water out?  Yep it is.  I saw that once in a three stooges episode.  No niceties or apologies are going to make people that want you dead, want you dead less.

Read some history Mr. President, these types of assaults from Muslims have been going on for hundreds of years.  Guess how they have been stopped?   Enough of them were killed so that they had to lay low for a few hundred years to repopulate.  For all their crying about the injustice from the West, if you read a bit you will find that they started to attack and take over Europe long before it went the other way.

If this administration doesn’t wake up, we are going to be in, if it isn’t already too late, really deep caa-caa.

Think I’m kidding?  “The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been investigating for several months at least 20 Somali-American men from the Minneapolis area who recently traveled to Somalia to train with the terrorist group al-Shabaab.

One of those men — 17-year-old Burhan Hassan — was killed in Mogadishu on Friday, his uncle, Osman Ahmed, told FOX News.”

If you look at it, if they are willing to kill those who want to help them, what do you think they will do to you?

These people have no grasp of what and who they are dealing with, woe be to our souls if they don’t figure it out.

Pictures can be worth more than a thousand words, but in this case, it leaves me wordless.  The grownups are:  Rosemary, the new Mom laying in bed.  Ellynn, the new Aunt.  Then there is the new Granddaughter Haley Rose.

Thanks be to God for his plan and the safe delivery of this little bundle of joy.
