Ignoring History

by

Here are the words of the Presiddent yesterday to the House concerning his so-called Stimulus Package:

“But what I have also said is — don’t come to table with the same tired arguments and worn ideas that helped create this crisis.

Were not going to get relief by turning back to the very same policies that in eight short years doubled the national debt and threw our economy into a tailspin. We cant embrace the losing formula that offers more tax cuts as the only answer to every problem we face, while ignoring critical challenges like our addiction to foreign oil, the soaring cost of health care, failing schools and crumbling bridges, roads and levees. I don’t care whether you’re driving a hybrid or an SUV — if you’re headed for a cliff, you have to change direction.”

Let’s look at the first statement and “tired arguments”.  Those tired arguments that you say are tired supplied this Country with 51 months of continued growth.  The Stock Market more than doubled in value, this does not sound like a failure to me, nor to most Americans.

The failure here was the Congress NOT paying attention to the Housing Market and supplying the necessary oversight.  At least twice they were warned but ignored President Bush and Sen. McCain.

So please revise your statement because it is not correct.  While just tax relief can revive this economy, history also shows that Government spending doesn’t do it either.  In fact if anything is going to revive us it will be a combination of tax cuts and Government spending cuts.  And I don’t mean those “targeted cuts” either.  If you do this then we give that, is simply a lip service that benefits almost no one.

This is why Democrats loved targeted tax cuts, the way it is written nobody actually ends up qualifying for the refund.

He is also talking out of both sides of his mouth with our “addiction to foreign oil”.  This is from the man who just overturned the Bush Order to allow domestic drilling on some federal land.  Just up and canceled standing contracts and put an end to any new supply to help keep prices down and import less foreign oil.

This is all still politics as normal were the President sees nothing but his own parties ideas as worth considering while expanding the role of Government in the guise of improving the economy.  More Government is never, never and never going to increase or improve the economy.  Spending more with or without changing taxes will create only more debt and do nothing for the average American Tax Payer.

The President is bringing change.  Instead of a Tax and Spend liberal, he’s just a Spend liberal.
