UnCommon Sense

by

Hold a hammer directly above your head.  Release it.  The result should be what we normally call common sense.  To paraphrase Spock in “The Specter Of the Gun”  I do not need to see a hammer hit the ground on a planet with a positive gravity should I release it to know it will in fact hit the ground.

There are certain, and known results of certain actions.  For example when you pass anti-gun laws crime does not go down it increases.  The converse is also true.  Where solid citizen’s can carry a fire arm crime for some odd reason goes down.   It’s not really odd, it’s common sense, who do you pick as a victim if you know anyone might be armed?  Do you care if you know no one is armed?

Let’s look at health care.  It is no more exempt from the laws of supply and demand than any thing else in a capitalistic system.  So let’s look at some facts.  When Medicare and Medicade were passed back int the late 60’s health care rose some 400% in just the years between 68 and 72.  Now the Current Administration wants to add some 40 million people, (half of which are not even in the Country illegally), to “free” health care.

So where do the “extra” health care people come from?  Answer, they don’t.  There is no plan to help add more medical professionals to the system.  Like closing GITMO, there really isn’t a plan, just an idea with an end result in sight, but no way to actually accomplish it.  The projected cost alone are staggering.  Understanding that the Government estimates are never even close, we are already talking about $1.2 to $1.5 Trillion dollars.  Better make that $3 trillion.

This is one third of our budget right now.  Social spending is way over half of our budget now.  Soon we will be able to have no income except that which the Government provides us.  Tell me again which Country has the medical expertise when it is most needed?  If this socialization is such a great way to go, why do foreign leaders come here when they need the best care?

Why did a man of McCartney’s wealth come here when Linda was stricken with cancer instead of staying in Briton and their health care system?  Common sense should provide the answer.  So where is common sense when they start telling us OUR system should reflect that of Europe’s?

Decades of heavy taxation until JFK lowered income tax rates, which in turn provided a boom to the individual wealth, increases in Federal revenue and home ownership.  One would think that common sense would tell his fellow Democrats and they  would see the common sense approach to economics works.  But sadly the Party of Kennedy left him.

Where is the common sense in allowing an innocent child to be terminated, yet allow a killer to live?  Where is the common sense in allowing an organization that can’t even run a solvent savings account, (which is about what Social Security is), try and run the Credit Card Companies, the Housing Industry, the Bank Community and the Auto Industry?

What kind of “common sense” is it that makes anyone think that you can spend more than you make year after year, after year, after year and somehow think that spending solves the problem when decades of results show otherwise?

Perhaps the phrase common sense should be replaced.  Let’s start calling it what it is “UNCOMMON SENSE” Because what is being offered is anything but.

Ah Chas…another great piece. Of course, “uncommon sense” is a great description, and we watch it all unfold. I continue to be stunned, of course, and fear that as I am aging, I will definitely slip thru the cracks, as a non essential citizen…no longer productive ya know? and expendable. Didn’t they make several movies abt this? YIKES!!! I fear for my children and their children for all those reasons…it would appear the old, then the chronically ill next, then the ???????…scary for sure! Thanks again, for a great read. Gini

    Good Morning Chas,
If politicans had some common sense, we wouldnt be in this mess in the first place, and the people that made it possible for them to be there, also has no common sense.

Hard to disagree with that Sal.

I think the suggestion to let Wal-Mart handle the health care might be a good one. They have managed to get many antibiotics and other drugs to sell to their customers for $4.00.

Some stores are now having a medical clinic as one of the inside sections like Eye Care, hair dressing, photos, etc. I am not sure if I am kidding or not…lol.

They would certaily do a better job than the Government does I am sure.

It’s no surprise that Washington has no common sense. There’s nothing “common” about a single one of them, unless you count the dollars they spent to get there. They are senseless, but of power, greed, and corruption.

It’s really frightening that our republic has devolved to the point that our only choice for representation are those who are so unrepresentative of any of us. They are clueless of what it means to be an American.

But they do know how to get reelected, steal from some to give to others.

I always refer to a person without common sense as being an educated idiot. I find most times, not all the time, but the ones that have gone to college and received their degrees have no common sense. Now this isn’t everybody, don’t get me wrong. But I have found on more than one occasion, it was. I have to add, I managed to keep my common sense, 🙂

One time we had a neighbor kid my Dad put to work on the farm as a helping hand. His IQ was off the charts, however he had to ask my Dad how to pull a nail out of a piece of lumber. All Dad could do was shake his head. After Dad explained the how to, the neighbor kid actually laid down and proceeded to pull the nails out of the lumber. He lasted two days working on the farm, he said it was hard work.

What I think as common sense, we are not seeing any of that in Washington with Congress. Take a look a “climate change”. They are wanting to push this cap and trade on us taxpayers and switch to alternative fuels. The small cars that they want us to drive. Well here is just one thought: they want us to drive electric cars right? Well the electric cars have to be plugged in and then the cars will only go 100 miles until the next charge. Well how high will our electric bills go then? Estimated per household electric bill with cap and trade will be anywhere from $3500.00 to $5000,00 per year. Who can afford that? Common sense, I think not……

hey chas to have common or uncommon sense seems to me you have to have some sense to begin with we know those who are supposed to be looking after us are only looking after themselves

of course another great piece thanks for keeping us informed

Seeing results shouldn’t take any sense at all, but to ignore results shows a lack of intelligence or a self-serving purpose.

COMMON SENSE…what COMMON SENSE. It seems that the people we elected to Congress checked that at the door when they were sworn in. Everything is smoke and mirrors in Washington so that you really do not know what they are up to there.

We should all remember that the first job of a congressperson is to get reelected and your principles be damned…Just ask Specter.
    ===========================
Seems they believe that their principles trump your vote, because all of them say they are their to vote their conscience.

Which is odd since I thought they were there to represent the voters and the interest of the Country.
