Meanderings. 2-28-10

by

I’ve just had a wonderful evening with some very dear friends from Australia.  More like family actually, since they are related by a combination of blood and marriage.

They had just arrived in Country and called to invite my wife and I out to dinner.  I had spent the day preparing a Spaghetti Sauce w/ sweet Italian sausage.  She doesn’t do meat, but was just with the Sauce.

A nice visit with some causal conversation, John and I talked a little politics.  Almost odd how much his thoughts on governing are like my own.

I believe that in talking to John, that Jefferson was essentially correct when he said we find these truths to be self-evident.  Even in Countries that lean in the socialist areas, many are not convinced that the need for a nanny government is really there.

It is times like this, talking to my friend from another land, that I get hope for the world.  Some day we may very well discover that indeed Government isn’t the answer, but the problem.

I would add to Frank’s comment, that most do think that ‘men should walk free’…the rub is, how to take care of ‘those less fortunate’, in the process. The sick and poor amongst us…….and that is the battleground, I think. Not IF we should, but HOW we should.

Government is the problem CHAS. It is amazing how people from different lands see things a lot like us….

Perhaps we are better defined but what makes us similar than by what makes us different?
