What’s Really Important

So we often hear that we have the people’s work to do.  This Party or that is preventing or delaying much-needed progress in this area or that.  That of course is the “official” story.

However. once and a while someone lets it slip out what they really think about what is important:

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) said the August recess is at risk because of Republican obstruction of Wall Street reform and executive branch nominees.

Durbin told reporters Thursday that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned his colleagues this week during a private meeting of the possibility of working over the August recess, when the Senate generally leaves Washington for a month.”

So you see, it’s not really gaining more power or control.  it’s not protecting American’s financial security, it is really about getting home in time for a month vacation….again!  🙄   Personally I’d like to limit them to meeting 4 month’s of the year.  I’m sure they could do plenty of damage to our wallets and our liberties in 4 months if they had to.

Just to contrast this, remember that Article 1, Section 4, para 2, states that the Congress shall meet at least once a year in December.  The 20th Amendment changes ONLY the day they must meet, which is in January.  There is nothing in the Constitution that says they must have vacations, they have to meet for months on end or they should finish all Bills on which they disagree before they do go off to home.  In fact it would be a great idea if they had no clear agreement, it should be delayed so they could go home and listen to those who put them in office, that they are supposed to represent and hear what they happen to think about.

Not that would do us any good until the next election.  As we saw with the Health Care bill, what the People wanted was secondary to what the Democratic Party wanted.  Even with town hall meetings, polls, the President giving almost daily pep rallies for this unconstitutional take over of our health care system, all the negative response to it, did not even give the majority of Democrats pause.   Many of them now are in danger and being properly rewarded for that vote.

Banks, Wall Street, GM, Health care and now it is being considered the internet.  When are people going to see the gradual encroachment upon not only the private sector but our individual liberties and freedoms?  I am forced to remember what Th. Jefferson said; “Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.”

Some will out of hand dismiss the very idea that tyranny can happen here.  I’m sure the Russians, The Germans and the Romans all thought the very same thing.  Here is the real deal, what REALLY is important.  Trust me it isn’t your Congressman’s August Vacation.  It is that the people who we expect to represent us, are simply more concerned with giving the appearance that they care, that they are doing your work, but their real concern is being re-elected.

The rally cry in my house this year is “If they are IN, they are OUT”!

“Rebellion to Tyranny is Obedience to God”

Great post again. Always amazes me how you’re able to put things so succinctly. Was thinking that they were thinking of their vacation. Yes, their one month off. Reminds me back when I was in school, and we were all cramming right before vacation time. Results weren’t fantastic as you can imagine.
It’s pretty easy to spot when they make it a point to talk about it in interviews. 🙄

I believe I heard on the radio today, that Europe is insisting that Greece privatize their Health Care system, b/4 they can expect any ‘help’ fr that group. Well…no surprise. “That group” usually calls on the USA, to solve their probs. Hummm..for such a ‘hated’ country, they certainly don’t hesitate to pick that phone up, do they! The ‘child’ that can’t control his ‘life’ does frequently call ‘home’ for help, when everything crashes and burns. Guess we should get used to that thankless roll, hum? And yes Chas…societies have ‘slept’ while their liberties were taken, all in the name of “we must feed and clothe the hungry”….. ❓ The poor did not get fed or clothed along the way, and those who could have done that, are left w/no means to do that at all, in the end.
It’s all just a sham Gini. The poverty level was around 10% when the “War on Poverty” started. $6 Trillion later, the poverty level is still right around 10%. It’s all about votes, money and power, mostly the last 2.

Ellynn…great thoughts, and definitely her fathers own child! Yes…when one thinks they have done something ‘noble’, they do get that ‘gushy I’m so wonderful’ feeling, which causes the brain to atrophy, I think? In fact, I am almost certain that is what happens. I didn’t click and read abt ‘the prison’s’, however, The Prison System, is abt money. Simply money…only money. No one is redeemed, educated, rehabed, or made better by the experience. It is a failed plan…and now we incarcerate everyone, w/o pause, as the remedy. Well..of course, the pedophile is the exception most generally..the rapist, oh my! Well..we just didn’t KNOW he was going to do THAT again. As we rail against our law enforcement, I would remind everyone…they gather these fiends up, and the courts let them go in the blink of an eye. It’s a mess, for sure, as we see our youth in jail, and the ‘bad guys’ are left free to roam the land, unfettered by any law that can hold them. Great post Ellynn…you certainly did make me think, and sparked my ever present objection to the prison system, and how it works. Thank you for your contribution. Your dad rocks, by the way! ha haha! lol 🙂

So long Steny Hoyer. Come on in Charles Lollar–let’s see if you can do better.

AND Barbara whatever you last name is….sorry you thought I was too ignorant to figure out what it meant when we TOLD you NOT to vote for the bail out. But I am not too dumb to scroll right past your name in November.
Seems Babs forgot that she is a representative, which makes us her boss. So I believe that makes HER the ignorant one.

To see the effect giving power to someone has one only needs to google ‘Stanford prison experiment’. Of course I like the article in MSNBC on the experiment done regarding positions of power and lying. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35836844/
Power corrupts…… absolute power corrupts absolutely.
I bet most congressmen are lying to themselves and believing it. They all go home and pat themselves on the back for solving the problems of the American people because they make better decisions and we peons can’t possibly know what is best for us.
Dang! When did my little girl figure out that Dad actually knew what he was talking about? 😆 Not that I think MSNBC is much more than a liberal talking points network, but even a blind squirrel finds the occasional acorn.

    Thanks for reading dear.

Great post Chas. If any one thinks 99% of these Congressmen cares, they have their head in the sand.

I agree with “If they are IN, they are OUT”!. I can’t wait for November!
I happen to think that you can’t get their attention, until you hit them where it hurts. They might have gotten rich being there, but a sudden loss of income effects everyone.
