40 Dollars and “Change”

by

In President Bush’s last month in office Gas cost around $1.68 locally.  Less than 4 years later I am paying $3.64.  When running for office Obama said he would tax the windfall profits, (setting aside that the Gov’t gets more in taxes from the sale of gas than Oil Companies make profit), which of course would be passed on to the consumer.

There is a change for you a 46% increase in cost.  The President is running around the Country, (On our tax dollar), raving about what $40 dollars means to middle class families.  Hey dude, give me back Bush’s gas price and that is worth a lot more than your stupid $40 a paycheck.  Approve the pipeline and open off shore drilling and watch the price of gas drop.

Remember “Drill baby Drill”?  It took only months for the price to drop dramatically.  Remember the liberals saying; “Oh you silly people.  It will take 10 years for oil to reach us.”  Without the oil even being searched for the price dropped.  And if we had allowed to search to begin, we’d be 3 years into finding and pumping it.  This is why you have to stop listening to liberals.

We keep hearing about the Government’s War on……, (fill in the blank).  Except Obama’s War on Oil or his War on the Economy.  Because the two are intertwined.  We simply don’t have, and cannot replace oil with, anything available today.  Look, I am an old Star Trek guy.  I am all in on the matter/anti-matter unlimited free energy, as soon as the technology works.  Until then you have limited options.

Speaking of options…….

You find that “Neighborhood Grocery Mart” doesn’t really serve your needs.  Do you continue to use this store or do you exercise your option to find a store that does fill your needs?

Chances are that you will find another place to shop.  So why do “we” settle for our education system to fail to serve our needs when it comes to what we all hold most dear?  Sending your child to public school and expecting a well-educated independent thinker able to cope with life is like sending your child to Dance Class and expect to get back a plumber.

The one thing I believe we can all safely say is that over the last 100 years is that the Government has grown in size and scope.  They have amassed power well beyond the intent of the Founders and we the people have allowed it to happen.  Why have we allowed this to happen?  I believe that one major cause is our under-education in the founding and Constitution and the limited government the Country was founded upon.

Instead of teaching Article 1, Section 8 and the limits of the powers of Congress, they search your lunch bag for illegal substances such as a PB&J Sandwich.  Instead of teaching the role of the Supreme Court in ruling on cases by Constitution and case-law instead of making up new laws and rights, they ban T-shirts and Religious Medals.

Let’s not teach kids good math skills or how to make change for a dollar, let’s teach Global Cooling, er Global Warming..er Climate Change.    Spelling?  why bother to grade bad spelling, a kid might get hurt feelings.

Why if the local school isn’t teaching your children isn’t there any choice other than a parochial school if there is even a local school around and  affordable.  Other options might be available except for you still have to pay for a failing school that your children don’t go to.

But there is a reason for that.  Note I started with teaching the Constitution.  Who benefits when our kids don’t understand limits of Government?  The Government does of course because they can continue to increase the power and control over those they govern.  Small wonder that less than 20% of people went to High School during the 1900 – 1940 the period with the largest expansion of Government power, until LBJ in the late 60’s.

It was in the 40’s that local control over schools began to transfer more control and power towards a more Federal Control.  Certainly more people began to attend High School, became a more skilled labor force, but over time the level of education began to decline as Federal Sponsors became more concerned over appearance than results.

The easy answer is get the Government, ALL Government out of the education business.  The Federal Government does a poor job of it and the local is forced to comply or face loss of funds.  Let the free market run the schools, let parents pick the school and allow tax credits or partial funding for the parents to pay for it.

Then only schools with positive results will survive and our children will be better able to cope with the trials of life today.

You can expect gas prices to rise every spring. It seems to get earlier and earlier each year. That’s because oil futures traders know demand for gas rises in the summer. They therefore start buying oil futures contracts in the spring in anticipation of that price rise…

Chas, the Statistician-in-Chief flunks statistics again. Census Bureau statistics says median HOUSEHOLD income is $51,914 not individual. A $40 per week would equate to $104,000 per year or $2000 per week.

    Great blog

Well said Chas. I can recoop the 40 dollars with one fillup. Also, ever since government has been in the education business our children have been dumbed down. Socialist ideals have replaced the constitutional guidelines. Here is a piece F&F did a while back. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=VxHfYNTrnic If the link is not hot, cut and paste to your address box. Great blog Chas.
